ARTIST PROFILE

Harry Lee is a contemporary artist and landscape designer who reimagines the timeless ritual of the tea ceremony through immersive environments and ceramic artifacts.

With a foundational career in landscape architecture, Lee previously practiced at the renowned Martha Schwartz Partners in New York. His work is deeply rooted in the concept of "landscape as immersive theater"—a philosophy developed during his time at Harvard University, where his research explored the intersection of public space and performance during the rise of cultural touchstones like Sleep No More.

Today, Lee’s practice spans global stages, including Coachella, Palais Royal, and Nuit Blanche Kyoto. As the founder of Tea J Club (Kyoto) and the Harvard Club Tea Society (New York), he treats tea as a living art form—part performance, part sculpture, and part communal experience.

Lee’s landscape relics are handcrafted at the historic Asahiyaki atelier in Uji, a kiln with over 400 years of history. Established in the 1600s, Asahiyaki is celebrated as one of the Seven Enshu Kilns favored by the legendary tea master Kobori Enshu. Utilizing local clay—often aged for over a century—Lee creates his signature ceramic series: OYSTER, INFERNO, and Neo-Artefacts. Each piece serves as a vessel for a spiritual dialogue between nature and narrative.

(Harry Lee)
