ARTIST PROFILE

HARRY LEE‍ ‍

Harry Lee is an artist working across ceramic, ritual object, and immersive installation. Born in Hong Kong and based in Kyoto, his practice explores the intersection of landscape, memory, and spiritual tradition.

Lee creates contemporary ceramic relics that function as vessels of place and presence. Drawing inspiration from sacred landscapes and temple traditions, his works are crafted using materials sourced from historic sites and ceremonially blessed with holy water gathered from temples throughout Japan and abroad. Through this process, each piece becomes a contemporary artifact—an object that carries the resonance of the landscapes from which it emerges.

His practice is deeply informed by his background in landscape architecture, which shapes his understanding of space, ritual, and the relationship between human presence and the natural world. These ceramic works often serve as the foundation for immersive artistic environments and performative rituals.

Lee’s projects and installations have been presented internationally, including at Nuit Blanche Kyoto, the Palais Royal in Paris, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace. His ceramic works are produced at Asahiyaki in Uji, Kyoto, a historic kiln with over 400 years of tradition, where he collaborates with master artisans to merge ancient craftsmanship with a contemporary artistic vision.
